The Calgary Block Watch Council is a registered, charitable, non-profit Society, incorporated under the Societies Act of the Province of Alberta. The Council was founded in 1984 as the Calgary Crime Prevention Council and approved by Alberta Corporate and Consumer Affairs in January, 1985. In January, 1988 the name was changed to the Calgary Block Watch Council.The Council functions as the umbrella Block Watch organization in the City of Calgary. We act as a resource to community Block Watch Associations and help them develop and implement effective Block Watch programs.
THE OBJECTIVES OF THE CALGARY BLOCK WATCH COUNCIL
- To provide support, guidance and assistance for the education, promotion and expansion of the Block Watch Program in the communities of the City of Calgary.
- To foster an awareness of the need for community crime prevention in the City of Calgary.
- To take concerted action on such matters that affect or are related to crime prevention in the City of Calgary.
- To ethically raise funds to achieve the objects of the Council. This includes accepting gifts, donations, grants, legacies, bequests and inheritances.
THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
The Calgary Block Watch Council is governed by a board of directors. The board is composed of professional business leaders who are elected pursuant to the articles of the bylaws of the Society.
The Calgary Block Watch Council employs an Executive Director to manage the day to day activities of the Council. The Executive Director supervises staff and is the primary contact for community Block Watch Associations.
