Councillor John Pantazopoulos' Ward 6 office sent out their April update. Here's what's worth pulling out for Signal Hill, the stuff that either affects our block, costs us money, or has a deadline this month.

1. Paskapoo Slopes + Medicine Hill park plan, survey closes May 10

This one's the most local and the most time-sensitive. The City is putting together a park plan for Paskapoo Slopes / Medicine Hill, the green space that borders Signal Hill on the north. They're asking residents what we want the park to look like long-term.

Take the survey: engage.calgary.ca/medicine-hill, open April 7 through May 10, 2026.

In-person engagement events: April 22 and May 2. If you use those trails, walk your dog up there, or watch the deer cross, this is the moment your opinion counts.

2. Blanket rezoning repealed, effective August 4

Council voted 12-3 on April 8 to repeal the city-wide blanket rezoning bylaw that passed in 2024. After 400+ speakers and nearly 3,300 written submissions, zoning will revert to pre-2024 rules on August 4, 2026, with carve-outs for permits and applications already in motion.

What it means in plain terms: the "R-CG" default that let single-family lots host duplexes or fourplexes city-wide is going back to what it was. Specific areas the City targets for higher density will still get rezoned, but not by default.

If you're planning a renovation or secondary suite that relies on the current rules, check with the City before the August 4 cutover.

3. Edworthy Park parking, 75% reduction starting May 16

If Edworthy is part of your weekend routine, plan ahead. Starting May 16, parking at Edworthy Park is capped at 25% of normal capacity, and the Point McKay lot is closed entirely. Cause: water main repairs + trail safety work. Picnic sites remain first-come, first-served.

Bike in, bus in, or get there early. No ETA on reopening yet.

4. Police town hall, April 30 at Wildwood

Calgary Police Services is hosting a Ward 6 town hall with Chief Katie McLellan, community resource officers, and Sgt. Hurley on Thursday, April 30 at Wildwood Community Association.

5. Bear Smart reminder

We're heading into the season where carts left at the curb for 12+ hours become a bear's buffet. The City's ask is simple:

  • Put carts out only between 5–7 AM on collection day
  • Roll them back in as soon as you can
  • Store them in the garage or a secure enclosure the rest of the time
Bears don't come up the escarpment often, but they do come, and a trained bear is a dead bear. More at calgary.ca/bearsmart.
