The new Mini playground at Battalion Park School got a big boost from Signal Hill: $100,000 from the SHCA, the largest grant we have ever made. Landscaping is wrapping up, the benches and tables are going in, and the school is planning a grand opening for Saturday, October 24. They have asked for Signal Hill to be there, and for a few extra hands on the day.
Nothing heavy and nothing complicated. The most useful thing on this list is simply showing up, so the school can see who made this happen.
No job, just presence. Come to the opening, wear an SHCA shirt if you have one, and be counted when the school thanks the community.
Say hello, point families to the playground, hand out whatever the school has to hand out. Friendly face required, nothing else.
Carry a few tables and chairs before, and carry them back after. Twenty minutes each end.
Help keep the fun moving: lining up for the ribbon, a game or two, finding lost parents.
Leave the brand-new playground the way we found it. Bags and gloves provided.
The Mini playground at Battalion Park School had been in the ground since 2001, and the school board does not fund replacements. That falls to parents. The Signal Hill School Enhancement Society, led by Brian and Kristi McKinnon, spent three years raising the money, and the SHCA put in $100,000, the largest single grant in the Association's history.
So when the school says it would love all of SHCA there for the opening, they mean you. Read how the playground came together →
Saturday October 24 depends on the weather and the landscaping finishing. If it moves, everyone who signs up hears first.
The school is setting the time. We will email it to you the moment we have it.
It is a playground opening. Kids are rather the point.
