Where your 2026 property tax dollars go, 42 percent now goes to the province
Property tax bills are out for 2026. If you're a homeowner in Signal Hill, here's the split:
- 42 percent → Government of Alberta (the provincial education tax requisition)
- 58 percent → City of Calgary (police, fire, transit, roads, parks, libraries, the day-to-day services)
By comparison, the City's portion grew 1.8 percent (about $49 more for the same assessed home).
Property taxes cover roughly half of Calgary's operating budget overall, the rest comes from user fees, grants, and other revenue.
