Good news for the families on the hill: the City of Calgary is giving one of our community playgrounds a full refresh this summer.

What's happening

Calgary Parks is replacing the Signal Hill community playground (City asset SIG743) through its playground lifecycle program. This is the program that periodically rebuilds aging playgrounds once their equipment reaches the end of its safe, usable life, so the space keeps serving the families who use it. If you took part in the City's playground optimization engagement for Signal Hill a couple of years back, this is the work that follows from it.

Where

It is the playground tucked into the green space and pathway that runs between Signature Heights SW and Signature Way SW, near Signature Terrace SW. If you walk the path that cuts through the houses there, you know the one.

When

The City has the construction tentatively scheduled for August 4 to 7, 2026.

A note straight from Calgary Parks: lifecycle construction schedules can shift due to contractor scheduling, material delivery, and weather. So please treat August 4 to 7 as planning dates, with the understanding that they may move a little as the City gets closer to mobilization. We will update this page if we hear the dates have changed.

What to expect

While the crew is on site, the playground will be fenced off and closed for everyone's safety, and there may be some construction noise and equipment in the area. When it reopens, it will be a fresh, up-to-date playground ready for the rest of the summer and the years ahead.

In the meantime, the rink-side play areas at the Community Centre (489 Sienna Park Drive SW) and other nearby parks are good alternatives for the kids.
