We are glad to welcome Carey Suen – International Estate Planning as a Signal Hill Community Association Annual Sponsor.

Carey Suen – International Estate Planning

Founder Annette M. Houlihan has spent over 40 years in financial and estate planning, a lot of it with families whose lives cross borders. Calgary is exactly that kind of city, so she reached out to us, and then went one better than a logo on a page: she offered the neighbourhood a free information session.

Estate planning is more than just a Will

Here is Annette, in her own words.

Who can act for you if illness or incapacity strikes? Would your family know what to do, and where to find everything, if something happened to you?

A good estate plan considers much more than who inherits your assets. It should also consider:

  • Who can make financial and personal decisions for you if you can't
  • Whether your Will still reflects your family and circumstances today
  • Whether your Executors and beneficiaries are still the right people
  • How an inheritance should be managed or protected for children and grandchildren
  • What happens if you have property, family or assets in more than one country
  • Whether your family knows what you own, where everything is and who to contact
With over 40 years' experience in financial and estate planning, I offer a personal, step-by-step service. We look at your circumstances first and then work out what you actually need.

You don't have to work it all out yourself, I'll walk you through it.

Already have a Will? That's often the best place to start. A review can confirm that everything is still doing what you intended, or identify something that needs updating.

The free session, and how to get it booked

Annette runs complimentary 30 to 45 minute Estate Planning Information Sessions for community and 50+ groups around Calgary. Relaxed, practical, educational. Not a sales presentation, and no cost or obligation to anyone who comes.

What gets covered: when and why a Will should be reviewed, choosing Executors, guardians and beneficiaries, Powers of Attorney and planning for incapacity, what can happen without appropriate estate planning, and how to make things easier for your children and family. Where it is relevant, she also covers property, family or assets in more than one country.

She encourages people to bring their adult children or other family members. Knowing someone's wishes, understanding where the important documents are kept, and having these conversations before they are needed makes everything considerably easier later.

We would rather book a date around real interest than pick one and hope. So:

Interested in a complimentary Estate Planning Information Session in Signal Hill? Email [email protected] with “estate planning” in the subject line and we will let you know as soon as a date is set. That is the whole sign-up.

If enough neighbours put their hand up, we will fix a date, book the room at 489 Sienna Park Drive SW, and promote it properly.

If you'd rather not wait for a group session

Annette also offers a complimentary Discovery Call, a private conversation about whether your own estate plan still fits your life today. It is free to anyone who asks. Mention Signal Hill when you get in touch and she'll know where you came from.

That's a genuinely useful hour whether or not you're an SHCA member. If you're not one yet, membership is $20 a year, it covers your whole household, and it is what pays for the events this partnership funds. Sign up here →
