Two November dates from the latest updates by Councillor John Pantazopoulos, our Ward 6 councillor.

Remembrance Day: Wednesday, November 11

Residents are invited to gather at Battalion Park to honour the courage, service and sacrifice of those who have served our country.

Battalion Park is our own neighbourhood memorial. It's the hillside above Signal Hill where First World War soldiers training at Camp Sarcee laid out their battalion numbers in white stones, which are still there today.

The formal ceremony begins at 10:40 AM. Come a little early to find a spot on the hill. Councillor Pantazopoulos will be there, and families are welcome. Even if you can't make it, take a moment on the 11th to reflect and remember.

The City's 2027–2030 budget

Council is getting ready to set Calgary's budget for the next four years.

  • November 10: the proposed budget is released, and registration opens to speak to Council.
  • November 23: public submissions to Council, then deliberations begin. You can speak in person or send written comments.
  • Late November or early December: Council votes on the final budget.
On October 26, more than 100 Ward 6 residents came to the Councillor's budget town hall. He says his focus is on responsible spending, keeping essential services running, and investing in Calgary's aging infrastructure, the same issue behind this month's Bearspaw water restrictions.

What Ward 6 communities told his office before the town hall: water and infrastructure that can keep up with growth, recreation centres, libraries and parks that keep pace, and roads and transit. Those are the themes he says he'll take into the debate.
