Ever wonder who puts all the Neighbour Day gear away after the big day? The answer, like almost everything at SHCA, is neighbours.

Today, Terry, Brian, and Gord rolled up their sleeves and spent the day packing away the inflatable blowers, the coolers, the signage, and all the odds and ends from Neighbour Day, and giving the garage a proper tidy while they were at it. It's the kind of work nobody sees, but it's exactly what keeps this place running. Thank you, gentlemen.

Built by neighbours, for neighbours

That garage is a good reminder of what we actually are. There's no paid crew here. The rink you skate on, the courts you play on, the events that fill the calendar, all of it is set up, run, and put away by volunteers who live on your street.

Case in point: this is our Olympia ice resurfacer, the machine that gives you that clean sheet of ice all winter. It lives in a neighbour's garage and is kept ready by neighbours.

Wait, we have a popcorn machine?

While digging through the garage, we rediscovered our popcorn machine. Which got us thinking: what if we did a movie night at the rink, with popcorn? Warm summer evening, a big screen, the whole neighbourhood, fresh popcorn on us.

Come lend a hand this Sunday

Speaking of neighbours building things: there's more to do this weekend, and you're invited. This Sunday we're tackling rink board repair and basketball court line painting. No experience needed, we'll show you the job, and lunch is on us.
