Signal Hill Community Association turns 40 in 2027. Ahead of that, we've added a few things to shca.ca that we think you'll use. Here's what's new.

1. Our Stories: forty years, told by neighbours

Who had the first house on your street? What was here before the houses? Which winter does everyone still talk about? We keep hearing great stories, so now they have a home.

Our Stories is a growing archive of Signal Hill memories, filed by decade from before 1987 to today. Members can write a story and add up to five photos with captions. It goes up straight away, and you get a private link to edit or remove it later. Every story has its own link, so you can share it with family and old neighbours.

It's empty right now and waiting for the first story. Could it be yours?

2. A Sunday mobility class at the Community Centre

Our first regular class is a four-week pilot with Coach Craig from F45 Training Signal Hill: Sundays at 11 AM on October 18, November 1, 8 and 15, in the multi-purpose room. It's an hour of guided mobility work for all levels, $5 for members and $15 for everyone else. Book and pay online. More about the class.

3. Members' gathering and AGM, Wednesday, November 18

Before we plan our 40th year, we want to hear from you. On Wednesday, November 18, 7 to 9 PM, members are invited to an open conversation about how we celebrate the 40th, which programs you'd like at the Centre and which events you'd come to. After that comes the Annual General Meeting: the year in review, the financial statements and the board election. Light refreshments. The location will be confirmed soon, and everyone who RSVPs will hear first.

4. Check your membership in seconds

Not sure whether your membership is current? Go to shca.ca/check, type the email you joined with, and you'll know right away. If it has lapsed, you can renew on the spot for $20 a household.

5. Your event QR code

Members can now open a live member card on their phone with a QR code we scan at the door of SHCA events. After the membership check, tap "Get my event QR code", enter the 6-digit code we email you, and your card opens. Add it to your home screen and it stays signed in. The code refreshes every 30 seconds, so a screenshot won't work for someone else.

6. Live numbers on the homepage

The "Up next" events on the homepage now show live numbers: how many spots are left in Sunday's class, how many kids are coming to pumpkin carving, how many members have RSVP'd for the AGM. Finished events drop off by themselves, so what you see is always what's coming up.

Also tidied up

  • Our Stories has its own spot in the top menu.
  • Volunteer moved under About.
  • The Events menu lists everything coming up this fall.
